Children's Therapy
Evaluations:
Evaluations at WNYCCF are comprehensive and determine what is most likely occurring diagnostically and what can be done to to help. Evaluations are multi-informant (parent, teacher, clinician, pediatrician) and take into consideration your child’s developmental history.
For children 12 and younger, the first appointment is with parents only. Parents will meet with a psychologist and clarify what is occurring from the parent’s perspective. It is also a time for parents to meet the psychologist and for the psychologist to get to know your child and your family from your perspective.
The second appointment involves a clinical interview with your child and an observation of a parent – child activity (e.g., getting your child started on homework or putting something together). This observation provides the clinician with an understanding of how interactions may go at home or in other settings.
The third session involves reviewing results obtained from the different assessment sources (parent, teacher, self-report, clinician observation) and a discussion of your child’s strengths and difficulties. A mutually agreed upon diagnosis will be discussed and time will be spent discussing evidence-based treatment options.
Standard (Level 4) & Stepping Stones (for a child with a developmental disability):
8 – 10 sessions to address moderate to severe concerns. This comprehensive program involves learning about the causes
of behavior, how to promote positive behaviors and development, managing challenging behavior, addressing specific situations, obtaining support in the community, and planning for continued
success.
